Bullhead Sculpin #2

This is a great way to add flash to any of the Down and Dirty Designs, or any other design, that uses a collar spun in a loop. In this instance I’ll illustrate the tying tactic with the Bullhead Sculpin (a favorite design of mine).

Step One. Lay down the first two colors for the collar (the light tan and black)  and then lay 10 to 20 pieces of flash material on top of the black. The Flash material should be roughly as long as the hair.

Step One. Lay down the light tan, black, and flash material.

Step Two. Add the third layer of hair (the light brown).

Step Three. Shove the whole pile up in the spinning loop, twist tight, form the collar. Form a second loop, add a three layer gob of dubbing and form the head. Fast and easy, great look.

I now see you are using a dubbng loop for the first portion also. I looked at the wrong fly first. You can lay that material in the loop and form it back for the body, and the tail? I’ll have to try it. Thanks.

    Hi Jere,
Great. You’ll find it’s a great tying tactic from which many different designs can be built.
