Bullhead Sculpin #1
The bullhead tying design can be added to a sculpin very easily. In addition, I’ll add a bit of flash to this design to form the body and tail.
Step One; Tie in a 3 or 4 strands of flash material at the point where the collar begins–here I’m using Gold LiquiFlash™ from Targus. Make the straands twice as long as needed and tie them in at their center.
- Step One: Tie in the long strands at their center.
Step Two: Fold the forward-pointing strands back and wrap them down. The flash product represents both the body and tail of the imitation. Because they are allowed to move freely, they add motion as well as flash to the fly.
- Step Two: Fold the flash product rearward and secure it with the thread.
Step Three. Tie in the Bullhead Leech design using three colors of FoxxFurr™ blended for the collar and for the bullhead: (1) light tan-—25%, (2) light brown–50%, and (3) black–25-%. The flash product shows through as the imitation “swims.”
- Step Three: Finish the fly as for the Bullhead Leech.
